　　before you meet with, do business with, or interview for a foreign organization, make sure you know the company.

　　在你去会见外国机构、与之有商业往来或者去面试之前，确保你要了解它。

　　know the company like the back of your hand: understand every aspect of the company. find out everything you can about the business you want to interview for.

　　* what do they sell, if anything?

　　* what services does the company provide?

　　* where can you help them best?

　　* how long have they been around?

　　* who is the chief executive officer (ceo)?

　　* are they owned by another firm?

　　* what languages are spoken in the offices?

　　* who is their chinese counterpart?

　　* if a company has simple letter abbreviations, what does it stand for? for example, ibm is international business machines. eds is electronic digital systems. fesco is foreign enterprises service corporation.

　　if you can surf (look through) the internet, this is a great way to get to know the company while looking for new jobs. as you are collecting data on the company you want to interview for, you should also be collecting questions you want to ask the company. at the interview you will want to show that you know the company. asking good questions is a great way to show you know the company!

　　molly: i am sorry, we pay in usd. how much would you expect in usd?

　　gordon: about $650 usd a month. how is that offer?

　　molly: good, but we have to take out tax.

　　gordon: how much could i expect to take home after tax?

　　molly: your take-home salary would be about $600 usd a month. i think this is your best bet.

　　gordon: i can agree to that, because money isn't the most important part of the position. doing a good job for a good company is the most important thing to me.

　　molly: great. wait for our call.

　　gordon: thank you for your time.
