A light drizzle was falling as my sister Jill and I ran out of the Methodist Church, eager to get home and play with the presents that Santa had left for us and our baby sister, Sharon. Across the street from the church was a Pan American gas station where the Greyhound bus stopped. It was closed for Christmas, but I noticed a family standing outside the locked door, huddled under the narrow overhang in an attempt to keep dry. I wondered briefly why they were there but then forgot about them as I raced to keep up with Jill.

Once we got home, there was barely time to enjoy our presents. We had to go off to our grandparents' house for our annual Christmas dinner. As we drove down the highway through town, I noticed that the family was still there, standing outside the closed gas station.

My father was driving very slowly down the highway. The closer we got to the turnoff for my grandparents' house, the slower the car went. Suddenly, my father U-turned in the middle of the road and said, "I can't stand it!"

Santa Claus was born in US in the 1860's he was named this as he had a white beard and a belly， so he was named Santa Claus as this was the Dutch word for St Nicholas， Sintaklaas. Although the Dutch had bought him with them in the 17th century， he did not become an important person at Christmas until the Novelist Washington Irving put him in a novel that he wrote in xxxx. This first Santa Claus was still known as St. Nicholas， he did smoke a pipe， and fly around in a wagon without any reindeer， but he did not have his red suit or live at the North Pole， he did however bring presents to children every year.

As the development of global communication, western customs are imported into China. Western festivals, especially Christmas, are now welcomed by/gain popularities quickly among Chinese, especially the new generation. Should we Chinese celebrate these festivals?
I would like to say we Chinese should not be too eager and excited to observe Christmas, because we should value our own culture and tradition first. Although celebrating western festivals shows China's opening up to the world, over appreciating other cultures will have a bad effect on keeping our own.
So my suggestion is that we regard Christmas as an opportunity to shop and to enjoy ourselves, but at the same time realize that our traditional festivals are more precious.
