Write an essay of 160-180 words based on the following picture.
In your essay, you should
1) describe the picture briefly.
2) interpret its intended meaning, and

As is vividly depicted in the picture, in the first picture there are a lot of books besides a boy, but he doesn’t read any of them. By contrast, the second one portrays that another boy makes a plan of reading: 20 books one year. In fact, the phenomenon in the picture doesn’t surprise us at all. Simple as it is, the intended meaning of the picture is worth our reflecting.
Undoubtedly, the cartoonist aims at reminding us of the significance of reading and knowledge . At the top of the list, we should attach importance to reading mainly due to that it can enable us to ameliorate ourselves so we can be qualified for future career promotion, and be ready for meeting the forthcoming challenges.What’s more, we ought to place a high value on the role played by knowledge in personal growth. Put it another way, in this ever-changing world, knowledge accumulation is to personal growth what water is to fish. To sum up, if reading and knowledge miss our attention in any possible way, we will suffer a great loss beyond imagination.
Hence, it is vital for us to derive positive implications from the above picture. For one thing, we should frequently use it to enlighten the young. The set of drawings above vividly depicts the destiny of a flower in different circumstances. In the first cartoon, the flower is placed in a comfortable greenhouse that shelters it from the threatening lightning and storm. With proper temperature, moisture and fertilizer, the flower is growing in full bloom. On the contrary, when removed from the greenhouse and exposed to the driving rain, the flower soon fades and withers, with the petals scattered on the ground.
The purpose of the drawings is to show us that the flower growing in the green house cannot withstand the test of the storm, yet the symbolic meanings subtly conveyed should be taken more seriously. Firstly, the delicate flower is naturally associated with young people, to be specific, the only children in our current society; the greenhouse epitomizes parents’ doting care and abundant material supplies that can shield the children from the storms or the harsh reality. Secondly, once the young people begin to seek independence and accept challenges from the real world, they are found too spoiled to be strong enough in the face of difficulties.
Accordingly, it is vital for us to derive positive implications from these thought-provoking drawings. What is evidently shown in the pie chart are the factors considered by the undergraduates when choosing a university for further education, among which the possibility of success obtains most attention of 42%. And ranking at the second, the strength of a school and major occupies 30%, with other factors of the area’s development and the families and lover making up 18% and 10% respectively.
The causes of those data, it is clear, are many and various. First, the absence of feasibility to be enrolled by the university will make nobody endeavour to choose it, since neither of us wants to study hard only to be rejected. Second, in reality, the strength of your university or major, to some extent, decides if you will be easier to be accepted by the famous enterprises when you hunt a job. Third, many may think the area’s development and their families and lovers worth less consideration because they can find a job in another city or reunite with their beloved after graduation.
As is analyzed above, most students make decision by thinking about the possibility and future development in the first place, which I believe is right. As increasingly more people are choosing to receive higher education, the ranking of those factors may not change a lot.
